The first local exhibit set the stage for two national tours of the Eagle. Giving up their stable lives from 1980 to 1982, Robert and his wife Nannette accepted offers of two all expenses paid national tours. They were swept away by what others saw in his Eagle. They traveled by rental truck, with dedication ceremonies by family members of the Iranian hostages and later by family members of Vietnam POW's. With great attention and public notice, the Eagle traveled over 20,000 miles, exhibiting in 55 cities and 23 State Capital Rotundas. Special exhibits were held at the Empire State Building, New York City and the Untied States Pavilion, 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville Tennessee. The Eagle was also exhibited at both Houses of Congress (Russel Senate Rotunda and Cannon House Office Building Rotunda). The Eagle represented the United States for the Bicentennial of the Great Seal (1782 - 1982). George Washington used the Great Seal in correspondence to the Britain's regarding prisoners taken during the American Revolution. The Eagle received media attention while on tour, bringing attention to the plight of the American Hostages in Iran and our Vietnam POW's. It was featured in over 100 newspapers covering the Hostage story, as well as by TV affiliates in every major city. ABC's Good Morning America and CNN News featured the Eagle as well. The Eagle is accompanied by a Poster produced by the sponsors for the New York City exhibit. The poster has been autographed by 100 US Senators, as well as the former Vice President / President George Bush, former President Ronald Reagan, former President Jimmy Carter and former Vice President Gerald Ford. |
